Course Description


Structured methods have been used for many years, but recent improvements in application development technology have made their use practical. Business modeling through structured analysis is used extensively within the requirements definition and analysis phase of a typical System Development Life Cycle. This course embraces objectives and techniques associated with structured analysis and how to facilitate practical application of these methodologies. It covers such topics as:

This course has been designed for programmers, analysts, designers, project managers, and end-users who are directly involved in systems development, business process re-engineering, and business analysis.

Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be able to:

  1. Clarify the meaning of structured analysis and how it fits into the Systems Development Life Cycle.
  2. Develop balanced hierarchical process models using Data Flow Diagrams.
  3. Develop refined logical Data Models using Entity Relationship Diagrams.
  4. Understand the use of abstraction, functional decomposition and level balancing.
  5. Understand the relationship between process modeling and data modeling.
