Process Modeling

Open Enrollment Date: These classes can be taught on-site as needed

In-House Scheduled: As Needed

Course Description

Process models are business representations of the functional requirements of a system. Though continuous user involvement, business policies and procedures are documented. The Information Engineering approach used, differentiates the documentation of user requirements (what) from the mechanism by which it will be implemented (how).

Exercises will include an extensive case study using context diagrams, decomposition diagrams, and data flow diagrams.

The pre-requisite for this class is Data Modeling.

Several exercises and workshops are included to reinforce learning; peer reviews are used to evaluate the effectiveness of the workshops. Duration - 2 Days

Target Audience

This course has been designed for data architects, programmers, analysts, designers, project managers, and end-users who are directly involved in systems development and business analysis.

Participant Objectives

Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be able to:

  1. Clarify the meaning of Process Modeling and how it fits into the Systems Development Life Cycle.
  2. Develop balanced hierarchical process models using Data Flow Diagrams.
  3. Understand the use of abstraction, functional decomposition and level balancing.
  4. 4. Understand the relationship between process modeling and data modeling.
